Anything that uses power and more. The smart features can be built into the device itself (like a light bulb) or added to the power outlet to monitor and control its power. It can also be a stand-alone unit for example a water leak sensor or hose timer.

Smart devices need a way to communicate. They often use your existing Wi-Fi (common when AC power is involved) and many battery powered devices use a protocol like Zigbee as is common in door and window sensors.

That's in the eye of the beholder I suppose, but most smart devices are indistinguishable from their regular cousins. Most smart light switches are decorator style and other styles are available. In many cases you can choose the style you like best for your needs at your price point. 

No, however most smart home projects are fully wireless and don't require new wiring. We are authorized to perform simple switch/outlet replacements as any homeowner might do themselves. We engage licensed electricians when required. 

How do you want to? You might want to use your voice with an assistant like Alexa or maybe you want to use an app on your phone. Maybe you want a dedicated touchscreen, or maybe you just need light switches to work together. You decide.
